Badrilla receives funding from Innovate UK to explore the application of its expertise and proprietary technology in medical diagnostics.
Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a form of ischaemia-reperfusion injury that occurs in a large proportion of patients admitted to hospital. It results in spiralling costs to healthcare systems around the world (£1.2bn per annum in additional costs NHS England) and results in large numbers of preventable deaths (estimates of 12,000 per annum in UK).
New diagnostic tests are required to identify AKI early in the course of disease and Badrilla is working with clinicians and technologists at the University of Leeds to develop such tests.
